Interactive Learning and

Technical Skills Training

The students are encouraged to participate in educational activities that feature innovative technologies. They enhance their technical skills, job readiness training, and employment opportunities. Each student participates in at-will structured or unstructured learning:

Enroll in our 12-week curriculum that encompasses various disciplines that lead to in some situations technical certifications, college credit and an Associate’s degree.

Participate and learn at-will with limited or no instruction.

Hang-out within structured or unstructured learning spaces. Our centers provide access to different innovative technologies and disciplines that students can explore on their own.

Life Skills-Ethnodrama

Our core foci are S.T.E.A.M.; Reading Comprehension; and Life Skills-which we implement through the ethnodramatic approach Honoring Stories and Integrating Curriculum™. The ethnodramatic approach Honoring Stories and Integrating Curriculum™ is a product and trademark of Community Allies.

Community Allies is partnering with Afterschool Labs to provide curricula for teacher training and development and will support youth and teachers in ethical, community-engaged methods of research and communication.

Students will use this ethnodramatic approach to engage local communities in contributing to the development of sustainable communities through the uses of innovative interactive technologies.

Community Engagement

The Afterschool Labs goal is to improve the quality of life for children, individuals and families, who live, work and worship in underserved communities. We want to empower our communities and our neighborhoods to continue to be active and engaged in the growth and development of our youth.

Afterschool Labs will address socio-economic needs and issues in the community and offer solutions through academia, ethnodrama, mentoring, life skills, and technical skills learning, job training, entrepreneurship and employment. Afterschool Labs will be accessible to all students at no cost.

“Afterschool Labs realizes the significance of our youth and the roles they play in shaping present and future societal developments. Our youth today are being exposed to divisive political and socio-economic cultures.”

“Our partnership with Community Allies helps us address these needs.”

— Bobby Bonner, Executive Director

“Youth and adults receive training in the ethics of cross-cultural communication and relationship building to further help our societies move forward in our investment in sustainable local, regional, national, and international communities.”

— Sarah Hobson, Ph.D. Founder and President, Community Allies
